When Cooper was a toddler, he was misdiagnosed as deaf. An audiologist told us he couldn’t hear most sounds.
Days later, a woman came to our house and welcomed me to the parenting a deaf child community.
Truth…I didn’t feel comfort. I felt terrified. I wasn’t ready for community. I wasn’t ready for much of anything.
Flash forward…
260 women. One common thread between them all. Each of them a caregiver to a child with a disability.
A club we never wanted to be apart of. And now that we are, goodness it feels wonderful to have others who get it, who understand, who don’t run from sad or hard or uncomfortable, but instead run towards it.
A few years back, my friend Amanda and I launched a nonprofit called The More Than Project.
We had one goal. To help moms.
Our mission seems to be continuously. growing, changing, evolving.
At first it was to bring free mental health counseling to families during the covid pandemic.
Today, it is to bring caregivers together for respite, education, and community.

A huge thank you to the Holiday Inn Riverwalk in San Antonio, Texas for hands down the best customer service I’ve ever received. The venue was breathtaking, the team was amazing, and we were treated so wonderfully.
